TSG Asks: What upcoming game are you most excited for?

Welcome back to another edition of TSG Asks where we pose a weekly question to the Top Shelf Gaming team and share their responses. With the annual deluge of games hitting store shelves in the coming fall/winter months we decided to answer that most timely of questions:

This seems like a pretty generic pick, but I’m really excited for Battlefront II. The last game absolutely nailed the look and sound of Star Wars, and while it was pretty limited in depth, I had a decent time with it. EA did some interesting things with last year’s Battlefield I, and assuming they take cues from that game (and the mountains of fan feedback they’ve received), this could be something special. By the time November rolls around I will be looking for anything to direct my anticipation for The Last Jedi toward, and if nothing else, I’m sure Battlefront II will be more than up to that task.

Most of the games I’ve been looking forward to have already been released. South Park: The Fractured but Whole was supposed to be released alongside the other major RPGs that came out earlier this year, but the delay will hopefully lead to a better game. South Park is one of my favorite shows on TV and The Stick of Truth was an awesome game in its own right. I can’t wait to return to the quiet little mountain town, this time as a superhero.

I’m gonna go with a classic safe one here and say Super Mario Odyssey. Nintendo blew gamers away earlier this year with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild by going back to the drawing board and experimenting liberally with the series’ conventions. Mario Odyssey seems to be taking cues from Breath of the Wild and even if Mario doesn’t manage to measure up to Link it will still be fascinating to see how Nintendo rethinks their flagship franchise. Also, I just want to control a dinosaur with Mario’s hat.

It’s amazing to live in a world where all my most anticipated games are coming out for a console I didn’t know existed a year ago. The Nintendo Switch has a lot in store for me through the end of the year from Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle to Super Mario Odyssey. My Switch has become my primary console and am still enjoying games like Breath of the Wild, ARMS, and Splatoon 2 daily. I could honestly, probably coast off these games through the end of the year, but I’m looking forward to the two new Mario games on the horizon.
