Nintendo and Kellogg’s have collaborated to create a Super Mario Cereal for your daily consumption and enjoyment — in more ways than one! It will not only help get your day started, but the box itself functions as an amiibo accessory. Using the Nintendo Switch’s NFC sensor, you can tap a section of the cereal box to obtain gold coins or a heart for Super Mario Odyssey just like you would with an amiibo.
The Senior Director of Morning Foods Marketing, Brad Schwan, said that they are “thrilled to pack so much fun into one box of cereal. The package adds value and excitement for fans.” According to Nintendo, the cereal has a “Super Mario twist.” The cereal resembles Lucky Charms, where every box has “a blast of mixed berry flavor,” but the colorful marshmallows are inspired by Super Mario power-ups instead.
Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives, Tom Prata, said that the “powered-up partnership with Kellogg’s is another exciting way for us to expand the Nintendo brand in unique and creative ways. We are always looking for new opportunities to bring smiles to people of all ages, and this is a fun way to kick off the day.”
It’s a pretty clever way for Nintendo to reach out to a broader audience, and with the collectible box art and amiibo feature, it is sure to get fans excited or, at the very least, generate interest.
The limited-edition Super Mario Cereal will be released as early as December 11 in stores across the United States.
