EA’s Star Wars Battlefront has a new expansion coming out later this month and more heroes have come to fight in the galactic arena. The Outer Rim DLC will, among other things, introduce two new iconic playable heroes. These new inclusions are Nien Nunb, Lando Calrissian’s co-pilot in Return of the Jedi, and Greedo, the smuggler shot by Han Solo in A New Hope. These two now join the likes of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Darth Vader, Boba Fett, and Emperor Palpatine.
Along with these heroes, the expansion pack includes a new game mode, Extraction, where Rebel players attempt to ship much-needed supplies from their location, while the Empire tries to thwart them. Additionally there are two new maps, a smelting factory on Sullust and Jabba’s throne room and sail barge garage, new Star Cards, weapons, and an increased level-cap.
It’s somewhat disheartening that these two characters, as iconic as they may be, were included in Battlefront before more obvious choices. Given the fact that the new game mode features players trying to move resources off-planet, including smugglers and pilots as the new heroes does make sense. So why EA decided not pick to more memorable and beloved characters, like Lando Calrissian or the cadre of bounty hunters hired by Vader in Empire Strikes Back, is beyond me. In any case, this is just the first of four expansions slated for Battlefront, so we will see which heroes enter the spotlight next time.
Star Wars Battlefront’s Outer Rim DLC is due later this March. Bespin, Death Star, and TBA packs will be released intermittently throughout next year.
