Master trainers all around the world, get ready for a new generation of Pokemon to catch.
A member of the NeoGAF forums by the name of Nibel revealed on Feb. 25 that Nintendo had trademarked the titles Pokemon Sun and Moon, along with the logos for the respective games. Nibel went on to claim that the titles would be announced at a special Nintendo broadcast on Feb. 26, to coincide with Pokemon’s twentieth anniversary. Fast forward a day, and The Official Pokemon Channel on YouTube posted a video, officially announcing the leaked titles for the Nintendo 3DS.
Very little is known about the Pokemon Sun and Moon, apart from a couple concept images seen in the announcement trailer. One of the new features the games will apparently include is drivable vehicles. In the concept art, a Blastoise and a Machamp can be clearly seen riding in the back of trucks. Also shown off was a wireframe model of a new bird Pokemon, a plaza of a new city, and a redesigned Pokemon Center.
Nintendo and The Pokemon Company have also detailed how players will be able to transfer their teams from across some of the games to the new releases, via the Pokemon Bank service. Available for the 3DS through the Nintendo eShop, the app allows for players to transfer Pokemon from any Pokemon title released for the 3DS.
Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow will be available on the Nintendo Virtual Console starting February 27. Pokemon Sun and Moon are set to release late 2016.
