Streaming Directly Into Your Wallet with Nintendo at E3 2015

Disclaimer: Everything written in this article is written in the viewpoint of a frothing Nintendo fangirl. This meaning everything is very likely to have a positive spin thrown upon the Nintendo Direct that happened this morning

The Nintendo Direct at E3 2015 this morning was definitely… An experience. How else do you explain a company that, rather than showing off the most BRO-iest game and connect with the younger crowd with “hip” new maymays, they wow us with their off-the-wall Nintendo Directs where, this year, they were…

MUPPETS.

YES MUPPETS. Last year was Robot Chicken-style Claymation. This year was muppets. And, let me tell you, THEY WERE ROCKIN’ THE PUPPET LOOK. It was definitely fantastic and worth the watch just for the puppets.

But, of course, we didn’t come for the muppet show. Here’s my breakdown for the game.

Star Fox Zero

*NEW* Star Fox heavily influenced by Japanese culture and the shrines Miyamoto visited as a child. We learned that Miyamoto is literally a furry who has drawn anthro animals since childhood. Anyhow, the mechanics require use of both the television screen along with the WiiU gamepad screen. One shows the map while the other is the player controlling their Arwing. The Landmaster as well as a plethora of other ships will be available to play, so there are many ways to enjoy the same levels.

NX

Literally no information was given on the NX, unfortunately. Reggie only slightly hinted about the NX before mentioning we’ll have more information regarding the system at E3 2016. The fans wait with baited breath for the new reveal while skeptics wonder if it’s too early to show off a new system with the WiiU being still very young.

Super Mario Maker

What hasn’t been said about the game? Nintendo is hyping the 30 year anniversary of the Mario franchise, so this is a way for them to show off more of the game we’ve been seeing now for over a year. It is interesting to note, however, the addition of different Amiibos can aesthetically change Mario. So, for example, if you add a WiiFit amiibo to the game, your game, you’ll have a tiny pixel WiiFit trainer to run around as. Exciting.

New Amiibo Figures

BIGGER. BETTER. STRONGER. LITERALLY FIRE BOWSER. ISABELL JOINS THE AMIIBO RANKS. PIXEL MARIO. WHAT’S NOT TO LOVE I AM IN LITERAL TEARS.

The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes

FOUR LINKS ENTERED.
RED. BLUE. PURPLE. GREEN.
THREE LINKS LEFT.
PURPLE LINK WASN’T STRONG ENOUGH.
HE WAS TRULY…
…THE WEAKEST LINK.
Co-op Zelda game using the same engine as Link Between Words. The game revolves around cooperative dungeon crawling along with a plethora of different outfits for Link to wear. Each outfit changes the abilities of our heroes and with that, a multitude of ways to play the game. The different Links have a shared heart container, so they have to work together rather than duke it out viva la Four Swords style.
Link can literally dress in Princess Zelda’s dress.

Hyrule Warriors 3DS

Nothing vastly different from the WiiU version of the game. The DLC characters for the WiiU version are available for the 3DS version along with the *new* characters Tetra and King Daphnes styled both from Wind Waker. Gameplay shows a new item, the ocarina (Saria’s) is available in the game.

Metroid Prime: Federation Force

I’m sorry this had to happen, die-hard Metroid fans. I’m really sorry. There’s nothing I can do to explain how sorry I am that this co-op is happening. As I type, I see an online petition to cancel the game. Let Metroid have its dignity. The game has nothing to do with the Metroid series other than the name. The fans are in outrage, and rightfully so. I’m so, so sorry. We want a new installment of the game, but at what cost, Nintendo? AT. WHAT. COST.

Fire Emblem: Fates

No real new information about the game, just a name-change from Fire Emblem: If to Fates. Still looks like a very solid Fire Emblem game, which is more than I can say for the SMTxFE game…

Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem

This game looks like a slice of life anime. I pray to the Goddesses this isn’t a repeat of Conception II with Fire Emblem battle mechanics. Literal anime garbage. I’m still going to buy it.

Xenoblade Chronicles X

Another installment of the Xenosaga and I, for one, am very hype. One of the few games actually for the WiiU in today’s direct. The game comes with complete MC customization, huge new world to explore, HUGE MECHS, and new skills to learn.

Animal Crossing Happy Home

Don’t you just love the HRA? Don’t you want a game that’s literally just the HRA judging how you design your home? WELL NOW YOU’RE IN LUCK. Legit, though, the game looks absolutely adorable. You, as a character, design different types of houses for the HRA or even neighbors who feel the need to have a little interior design. Match the design with their tastes and you’re golden.

Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival

In which Nintendo takes their most relaxed and calming series and turns it into a bloodbath with MARIO PARTY and AMIIBO HUNTING. Thought you were going to have fun with K.K. Slider and Isabelle? GUESS AGAIN. Although we don’t have much information about the game as of yet, it seems to have the mechanics of an old-style Mario Party game (as in, before they turned horrible) fueled entirely by Amiibos. I, for one, can’t wait to not be able to buy these amiibos. Thanks a lot for the shortages, Nintendo.

Yoshi’s Wooly World

We’ve known about this game for a long while, there’s nothing more to really say other than the amiibos are adorable, the game mechanics are adorable, wooly Spot is adorable, and the entire game is going to give me an overdose of sweetness. You can ride the dog YOU CAN RIDE THE DOG!!!!!!!
ALSO FEATURING: EVERY YOSHI’S WOOLY WORLD AMIIBO EVER MADE

Yo-Kai Watch

The game series also has an anime and manga counterpart. More or less you go around capturing different yokai aka cute demons in a very pokemon-esque fashion. It so closely resembles pokemon that the die-hard pokemon fans are up in arms complaining about this being released when they should be getting their hands on another pokemon game. The game looks very anime, but also very cute. You have to battle against ill-intentioned foes that cause those around you trouble.

Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam

The crossover we all didn’t know we needed! Super Mario Super Saga meets the Paper Mario series. Using your two Marios, two Luigis, and even two Peachs, you navigate the world in what’s sure to be one of the most interesting turn-based rpg games of the coming year.

Mario Tennis: Ultimate Smash

MORE MARIO TENNIS WE KNOW HOW MARIO TENNIS WORKS, THE CHARACTERS LOOK VERY CUTE, THIS IS ALL YOU LITERALLY HAVE TO KNOW. LOOK HOW CUTE PEACHY IS. JUST LOOK AT HER.

8-bit Mario Amiibo

As part of the 30th anniversary celebration of the Mario series, there will be a limited edition 8-bit Mario Amiibo released. Get ready to battle it out with scalpers for a chance to add this to your collection. In all honesty, it looks absolutely adorable, though I’m not sure if anyone would actually buy it to use as much as to collect.

All in all, many fans are salty over the lack of new titles being released, though really, Nintendo has so many Nintendo Directs through the year this was exactly that: just another Nintendo Direct. I, for one am so hype and when it comes down to it, it was definitely the most fun of any conference to watch.
