Activision has officially stated that a sequel to Destiny will be making its way to fans in 2017. This statement was confirmed today in the earnings report for Activision’s 2015 fiscal year. Now that is a long wait, especially when so many were hoping that the 2016 release would still happen, but don’t fret. To keep fans satisfied a large expansion will be released this year. This will be the fourth expansion that Destiny has received since its initial release. How much the expansion will expand on the world and empty your wallet is still in the air though. How much it will truly extend the world is also up for debate.
Over the past year, Bungie has played around with additional content. Since The Taken King in May 2015, they have released three seasonal events, which, despite being increasingly fun and item worthy, have not added much in truly new content for die-hards to sink their fangs into. Some fans are worried, but Bungie did admit in a blog post that their spring expansion will “feature a significant Light increase, a bunch of new gear to earn and equip, and new challenges for PvE players seeking some more fun experiences and replayability.” Hopefully that, plus a couple more events, will be enough to hold players over until 2017.
